11/16/2023 0 Comments Aks ephemeral disk![]() Anyone knows what's wrong? Using ephemeral disks is faster and also is cheaper when using 3-year reserved instances. It seems it doesn't want to use the ephemeral disk. ![]() It now attached a 128GB large Azure-storage backed HDD.Įven the example in the docs don't work: az aks create -g MyResourceGroup -n MyManagedCluster -node-osdisk-type Ephemeral -node-osdisk-size 48 ![]() I also tried to use a D4ds_v5 size (has 150GB local storage) and ran: az aks create -name aks-example -resource-group example -s Standard_D4ds_v5 -node-osdisk-type Ephemeral In the end of this step you will have AKS cluster and Storage account in resource group. When I look at the the VM scaling set, then I see a node-pool with D2ds_v5 instances, but it seems it connects an 70GB large Azure-storage backed HDD instead of using the local disk. ephemeral-storage: 119716326407 hugepages-1Gi: 0 hugepages-2Mi: 0. My nodes run fairly simple images, so I guess I won't run into any issues. The D2ds_v5 size has a 75GiB temporary disk, so I would assume that this would work. I tried to create the cluster like this: az aks create -name aks-example -resource-group example -s Standard_D2ds_v5 -node-osdisk-type Ephemeral -node-osdisk-size 70 For the Ephemeral OS disk, first, only the VM size supports Premium storage, then it supports the Ephemeral OS disk. Solace recommends that you (the customer) use ephemeral disks. DESCRIPTION By default, Azure automatically replicates the operating system disk for a virtual machine to Azure storage to avoid data loss if the VM needs to be relocated to another host. I am trying to create an AKS cluster and would like to use ephemeral storage. Worker nodes that you use for PubSub+ Cloud components must use ephemeral disks for the OS. AKS clusters should use ephemeral OS disks which can provide lower read/write latency, along with faster node scaling and cluster upgrades.
